Will anemones come out from hiding?

I just put a couple purple anemones in my tank and after a day they are both hiding under my live rock where I cannot see them or even get to them to pull them out.

1. Will they come out on their own?

2. Do they seek light?

3. Will they starve?

4. Any tricks to get them out as I paid a lot of money for them and would love to look at them.

I have an elegance and sun coral in the tank and they are doing well. No issues at all.

Thanks in advance for the newbie tech support.

What type of anemones? (( "purple" doesn't tell a whole lot )).

Do you know what lights they were under?
What lights do you have?
Are you acclimating them to your lights?
Water parameters -- with numbers
What size tank?

Really need to know the above information before going forward. However, IME, you can't always count on an anemone coming out into the light. But, yours may be hiding for a reason.

Todd,

They are long tentacle purple. If there is more to the species name I do not know it yet. Water parameters are below:

Amonia - 0
GH - 180
CH - 180
PH - 7.5
No2 - 0
No3 - 20
Phosphate - 0.0
SG - 1.023
PPT- 31
Temperature 77-78f as of this email.

The tank is 150g tall with (2) 250W MH and (2) T5 actinics. The lighting cycle is MH on from 2-7:30 daily. Actinics are on from 11-3 and from 6-9.

Also did not acclimate them. I now know that and I will do it next time.

Any thoughts? The tiny one came out today as you can see in the pics. The large beautiful one is still buried under the rock.

Would be nice if you could get a close up of it -- hard to tell what species from those pictures. In the first picture it appears that there is a white anemone on the left hand side, is that correct?

Your SG is low, should be 1.026, and your pH is on the low side, would like to have it around 8.2 (( tested when the lights have been on for a while. ))

That is an Elegance coral and it is doing great so far. If I could get a picture of the anemone I will it is just tough since he is buried under the rock.

I will work on the low SG and would you recommend adding anything for the low Ph? Like Ph up?

Here are some more pics from the top of the tank looking down which is the only view I have of it at the moment.

I wouldn't use anything like pH up -- it is only a temp fix. If your Cal, Alk, and Mag levels are in check your pH should follow -- but if those are in check, then it might be an excess CO2 in your house issue, which happens more in the summer, due to the windows being closed.

That anemone looks like an LTA (( M. doreensis )), but can't be sure yet. Does it have any "bumps" on the underside of the oral disc? They are sand dwelling anemones.

hey I just thought i would mention it would stress them out less if you acclimate them to your light.

I have had my battles with LTA. I have one now in my 55 gal tank and its doing great, main thing with them is they like higher salinity 1.025-1.026 you can gradually bring your up to that by adding in some higher concentrations of salt and test often. However, saying that I would not do anything until they are acclimated. Anemones are touchy, and mine HATES strong light! so I let it do its own thing and it found its right spot and has not moved since Just keep watching them, dont handle them if it starts to expel its "guts" it might be time to really keep an close eye bc if they die in your tank its nasty... My first LTA that I bought at Petco was bleached out when I bought it and would not eat, lost its stickiness and kinda just gave up. I hope yours comes out soon and maybe my experiences with LTA could help you some

I'm glad to see you will start to drip acclimate your live stock from now on nothing you do for your livestock is more important to their survival.
About the only thing you can do now is watch them closely and if they look to be dieing get them out as soon as you can. They will turn to mush really fast after death and will pollute your tank. Also keep an eye on your fish for stress this will also be a clue to the death of your LTA's.
Hopefully it will work it's self out for the best.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. So far things are improving. They are least showing themselves a little. With a little luck maybe they will come all of the way out soon.
