White feathery like things hanging all over my aquarium glass?

I came home last night and saw hundreds upon hundreds of white little feathery/stringy things attached all over the aquarium glass last night in my 14 g biocube which is currently cycling right now.

Didnt get to take pictures and just wiped them away with a magnet cleaner. They looked like little anenomes but I could be wrong

I think they were hydra but have no idea really. What do you guys think they could have been? They wiped off easily and were literally all over the glass.

They are copepods (crustacean) and nothing to worry about.

Interesting. Where did they come from, and what would have happened if I didnt wipe them away?

Thanks for the quick response

They come from live rock. Nothing will happen from you wiping them away, they will come back.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post one if and when they come back.

Ok, I will!

So were these things alive, like corals? Do they sting?

I could have sworn they were hydra. I researched some online and it turns out lots of people get them. But people said they sting coral?

Ok I managed to take some pictures since these things returned again.

What could they be?

Yup, those look like copepods. Once you get livestock, those thing will be feasted upon abd be gone quickly. Bottom of the food chain.

Oh ok, so dont wipe them off then? lol.

Are they a good sign?

BTW, here are my newly done water parameters:

pH: 8.2
SG: 1.023
Temp: 78
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 10-20 ppm cant really tell

Is it safe to add one starter fish?

It's a good sign of your tanks health, but you may not want to be overpopulated.

Wrasses eat them like candies.

Hmm, there were a lot more last night before I wiped them away (lol oops) but they are back now but not as many.

When should I add fish? Do I need to do a water change before I do that? Please help!

Those are easily feasted upon by your fishes. Wrasses, Tangs, Mandarins, they will eat it all. It's good to have at least a few in there, not sure about an infestation though.

Ok I just inspected closer and these things are now almost greenish colored (towards the bottom of the tank) and look like grassy algae! They are still small but are you guys sure they are still pods?

Here are some newer pics

those arent pods. (although I did see a pod in one of the pics) looks like just some sort of algea growth. maybe diatoms.
7.8, 0, 0, 10 work on getting your PH up a bit. (7.8 is ok) everything else says you're good to go. start with inverts

see the blue picture with the bright light that is at the bottom of post #7.
It looks like a pod right to the left of the light in the pic. You can also tell pods becuase if you look at them long enoguh they will move. that algae ainto gonna move, so I wouldnt spend too much time staring that down.
Pretty sure it would win in a mexican standoff

Should be ok to wipe it down. It is probably your tank still going through its cycle so it is probably diatoms and hair algae may be coming soon. My goby also likes to feast upon those pods as he posts up behind some rocks.

Man, you really ARE excited-for-fish . It should not be a problem to wipe anything off the front and sides of the aquarium. Just rrinse of the wipre/scraper when done. Might not be a bad idea to leave those in the back alone, just to see what they develop into. You might be growing godzilla parts or something .

keep the pH at 8.2, do a water change before u get a fish, you should do them when your nitrates get to about 10 because you want to keep them below 5 (zero ideally if you want a nem eventually). it is safe to add a fish now. if u planned on getting a clown, add it now. they are fairly hardy fish. next to damsels imo but those can be aggressive
