Cyanobacteria.
A common pest. There are many threads on causes/remedies. Generally, reduce feeding, reduce PO4 and NO3, increase flow, siphon it out as often as possible, and several days darkeness, are the techniques to get it under control. |

I really dont think its cyano ive had it before and it looked and felt nothing like this. This stuff isnt slimy like cyano and you cant just blow it off the rocks its grown right to the rock and feels just like sponge and its very thick.

I'm pretty sure I've had the same "growths" that you are describing and it flourished at the same time I had a cyano outbreak. I was just able to pick the spongy things off the rock.

looks like a type of sponge, I think it should be fine to leave it. Also looks like a britleworm under the sponge in the first pick if you hadn't noticed it yet.
