MegaFlow vs Glass-holes overflows --

I am in the planning stages of a 50 or 65 gallon anemone tank.

Tank will be 36" wide, 18 " deep.
I will be using a aquactinics tx5 for lighting.

I have the tx5 on a 75 mixed reef and like it.

Should I order a 65 megaflow or get a 50 breeder and install the glass-holes overflow.

Is the advantage of megaflow with its drawing water from different levels of the tank that much an advantage?

Help

Its mainly bottom drilled RR overflow with internal plumbing Vs through the back with external plumbing. They both have their pro and cons.

My thoughts:

Mega-Flow advantages:
1. already drilled & installed
2. Tank back can be much closer to wall as opposed to the Glass Holes kit.

Disadvantage:
2. less real estate, especially for live rock placement.

I doubt it does much of anything, especially since we are trying to skim the surface of the water. The Megaflows take up way too much space and do not skim a large enough surface area. If back drilling is not an option, then they are pretty much the only option, I would personally go with corner overflows if you can.

I built my own glass internal overflow box, with a siphon overflow(look for BeanAnimals thread in the DIY). The box is 2 feet long, 5" high, and ~2.5" deep.

I have a 120 with the MegaFlow (two for the 120) and a 75 with the glass-holes overflow. If I have to make another purchase, I would choose the glass-holes route because of the space the MegaFlow uses and also because of the difficulty I have had with silencing the overflow.

What overflows did you use on the 75 gallon one?
thanks

Did you have a drill with a clutch for the glass grinding?

I purchased the 1500gph kit. Overkill for my tank, but I do not worry about water on the flow because of a clogged overflow. I had my LFS drill the holes for me...he used a DeWALT cordless drill.

I have an aquarium with the same dimensions with the Glass-Holes 700 kit, and I also use it on my 60G Prop. They are awesome, not a single complaint!

In my experience, there isn't much of a comparison between the two, based on footprint alone. The customer service is industry-standard, too.

I personally wouldn't use a clutch. Just put the drill on the lower RPM setting if yours has it. Otherwise, drill it slow and let the drill do the work.

You also might want to look at this web page for tips on silent overflows:

I like the OEM overflows / dursos, the plumbing is so much easier when it comes through the bottom of the tank. Also, you can get the tank very close to the wall which is nice.
