Protein skimmer crash course?
Apparently I have a pretty nice skimmer but I was never really comfortable with the directions given to me by the LFS. Would someone be so kind to direct me to the right post delineating the do's and don'ts. Many thanks to anyone that can help!!

It is made by Marine Technical Concepts Inc. out of New Jersey. It is their Pro-series. That is all I know, All I have is a type written manual, not much to go on in terms of the beginner.
Thank you

Yeah let us know the type of skimmer.
Also youtube the skimmer and see if there are any good videos about it. That always helped me on reviewing skimmers. |

It isn't any of the ones on the site. It looks a lot like it though. It has the 3 tiers with the collection cup and a second much larger chamber that is a seperate unit altogether connected by a hose for additional waste I guess. Sorry that I am not clearer. There is a wood air diffuser in the center of the main unit too. It is being fed by a dedicated pump taking water out of my sump and it also has a dedicated air pump which is set to HI. Is that enough to go on??

Sounds like it is a real old one. AFAIK, no current design skimmers use air pumps and air diffusion separate from the water pump anymore. Everything now in the newer skimmers is incorporated into one pump with impellers and needle wheels.
Take a pic and post it. I may be wrong, but if it is what I suspect it to be, an outdated design, then I would take it back to the LFS for credit or refund.
