Fire Shrimp/Cleaner Shrimp Combo
Hi everyone! Can I get some opinions on this? I've researched the compatibility on these two and got about an 80% OK response online and my LFS of course said OK. I've had my Fire for 7 mos and he's huge like 2.5". I ordered a skunk cleaner from liveaquaria since LFS never has them, and like an idiot - I didn't realize I ordered a "small" instead of a large and didn't catch the delivery iin time. So I put him in ( after drip acclimation) and he was shy but OK all day (he was about 1.5"). So this morning - no cleaner shrimp and my fire is acting all cocky. So bad idea all around?? Or OK if the cleaner is around the same size as the fire? If no good - are there any other shrimps that would do OK? I'd love to get a pistol for my watchman, but haven't even starting looking into that compatability.
Thanks for any opinions!! |

I have 1 fire, 1 cleaner, 4 peppermint and 2 sexy shrimp all in a 150g and never had an issue. They've been together for almost a year.

Only time I've known of any problems is when quite a few are thrown in, in a small space. For example 10+ in a foot cube.
Even then It's usually only things like loss of tentacles through fighting. |

Yea, I doubt the cleaner is gone. Only pistol and mantis shrimps are likely to cause problems with other shrimp. Cleaners are generally shy, he probably found a nice place to hide and is chilling there. When I first put my cleaner shrimp in, I didn't see him for a couple of days. And I rarely see him now until the lights go out.

None of the cleaner shrimp I've ever had have been shy. They're usually hanging out at the top of my aquascape harrassing any fish that swims by for a cleaning or checking out my hand when its in the tank. Now my coral banded... thats a different story. |

I read a lot of people that said cleaner shrimp were very shy, especially when they are the lone cleaner. I've heard that they are much more bold when in groups, but having only 1 in mine, I can vouch that he's pretty shy. The ones in the DT at the LFS I frequent also has a few which are always out and about, but they're also huge and in a group. Mine is still very small.
