Coralife Pressure Pump - Induced Head Pressure

Question - new 120g tank up and running. Noticed with the Coralife Pump 1740 running wide open, my tank's durso pipes can't handle the volume...lot's of gurggling. Yes, I have played with the durso pipe configurations; taller, larger air holes, elbow hole sizes, and found by using the in-line ball valve turning down (3/4 open) the return water flow - the gurggling sound is minimized. However, I am concern that I'm now inducing excessive head pressure thus reducing the life expectancy of the pump??

Anyone have insight?

The pump is far too large for that system. yes, you cam throttle it back, but you are better off running the right size pump.

Thanks for the reply.
Forgot to mention, and it may not matter to change your opinion, but the return pump is in the basement and DT upstairs...pump was a recommendation and in hindsight too much regardless of the head pressure or line loss factors.

The pump in the basement makes a big differnce, and yes you need a high head pump. I also run a basement sump.

I looked up the specs and it has a 39' max head. Its the same pump as a Panworld 200PS. That is a very powerful pump. As you have found out, much more than you need. It also uses 290W. I would replace the pumps with a smaller model. I know it stinks to have to do so. In that brand, the 790P or 1100P would be better.
