Best Skimmer for 28g JBJ nano
Tank info: 28 gallon nano all-in-one with refugium in one of the back compartments, as well as a phosban reactor (no skimmer) and 35-40lbs of live rock. Two clowns, a wrasse, a blood red shrimp, 5-6 hermits, 4 snails. I'm at 1.026 salinaty, phosphates 0, nitrates in the 12.5 range, Ph 7.8, and Alk 7.8.
I went out of town for a long weekend and came back to Cyano on my sand bed in the front of my tank. I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago in very small area and I vacuumed it up and didn't think much of it, now it is all over! URGH! I've done some water changes and some vacuuming but it hasn't cleared up yet. I put some carbon in my 3 chamber filter today in an effort to help get rid of the stuff. I'm coming to the conclusion that I need a skimmer. What skimmers work best and fit in the chamber in the back? |

Im not sure if it fits with that model but consider the tunze nano 9002? I can't remember the exact model but a friend of mine runs one on his BC29 and it is sweet! Wiz

The problem with the tunze 9002, from what I can tell, is that I'd have to take out my middle chamber which I currently use for my refugium.

I have the same question. Just to add the LFS sold me a BC skimmer and it’s not very good (in my inexperienced opinion). Some on this site have tried a Warner Marine H1 or AquaMaxx H1 (I’m told they are around 200 bucks). I do not have experience with these. I too want to use the middle chamber for a refugium soon. The only other alternative that I can see is to get a external refugium (HOB or in the cabinet) that will allow the use of a decent skimmer and the benefits of a fuge.

i just got a tunze 9002 for my 29g biocube. honestly, as soon as i got my hands on it and saw how simple it was, i felt like i got ripped off, lol. its so simple i figured theres no way itd work, but im VERY impressed. it has pulled out some horrible junk in the first 2 days. BUT it does have to go in the middle chamber of the bc. im not running a fuge(i tried and ended up with chaeto all over the main display) but if i was going to, id run the tunze in the middle chamber with a HOB fuge pulling from the first chamber, and returning into the 3rd chamber(return pump chamber)

I ended up adding a second small sump/refugium behind the stock sump on my JBJ. The one drawback to their tank is the lack of space in the sump and the inability to raise the lid without modifying the hood. I can now use any skimmer I choose (I have a Tunze 9002) and open my lid without problems.

i didnt think about the lid problem with a hob fuge. but i bought my tunze used, and it came with a square collection cup that fits in the back of biocube and allows the top to be closed, along with the stock round cup that sticks out

Has anyone had any experience with oceanic skimmers? The LFS has one in stock and I could take it home and get it going. It looks like it would fit in the back of one of the compartments.
