UV Clarifier needed?
Hey All! I wanted to get your opinion on UV Clarifiers. Do they work? How strongly would you reccommend them? I have a 65 Gallon RedSea Max 250 (65 gallon) tank. The LFS owner highly reccommended it. He even told me to price shop it online due to the retail cost but he really believe it was worth the money. I haven't seen it on any "must have" lists on the forum so I wanted to get some opinions. Thanks in advance!

They help but not a mandatory addition to a fish tank. If you do not have a protein skimmer I feel that is a much more important addition to the tank, get the best skimmer you can buy.
I have used UV sterilizers a few times over the years on previous tanks mostly to just keep algae off the glass/acrylic & it has helped keeping that off the tank. Most people seem to make the mistake of getting one not large enough for their tank like a 9w unit for a 75-90g tank. Then flowing a few hundred gph through the unit which doesn't do anything. You need as big as you can get to kill everything that goes through it sized according to the flow you plan on pushing through it. To fast & it will not touch algae let alone parasites which require a longer zap time. I do plan on using one on my tank I am hopefully going to start installing after my honeymoon/wedding in a few weeks. I have a 57w & 80w Aqua UV for my tank..... |
