What is the smallest powerhead?
I am looking at streamlining my tank. I have coralias in the tank now and they work great. Problem is they really stick out like a sore thumb. I am looking for a smaller more streamlined powerhead. Any suggestions?

How big is the tank? A closed loop can be used so you don't have to have powerheads in there, so that could be an option. The Vortech's are nice, but they are still pretty big....and the same goes for the Tunze's. Maybe the Tunze nano's or some Maxi Jet's hidden behind rocks or in the corners.

The Tunze's are only slightly smaller that the Koralia's. Same goes for the Maxi-jets. Hiding them behind the rockwork is an option but the flow buffeting off the rocks will obviously reduce the force of the flow as it moves around the rocks.

I'd say a couple of Tunze 6025's or for a bit less a couple of Koralia Evo's. The Tunze's, like I said are only slightly smaller than the Koralias. They don't stick out as much as the Koralias.

One thing no one asked is do you want controllable power heads? If so then personally I would recommend 2 mp20w. If you wanted to upgrade to a larger tank in the future all you need to do is replace the controller later on and you have upgraded to a mp40w. I have 2 mp40w's on my 180 and love the very small foot print they leave.

I was int he same place, have a 65G, and had 2 K4s, took too much room
remved them both and got a MP 40. its on 100% NTM moode, corals love it and opened p REALLY important real state fro more corals ! I could have got a bigger thank, or a smaller power head, so MP40 sounded logical now I want the second one lol and let me tell you these guys MOVE WATER !!! (spalashing noise and motor noises increased though)_ took me a day to find a place to put it so it wont push water out of the tank. |
