My fish don't like Roggers Reef Food?? Any ideas why?

So I got some of the food and I know its good but it seems like no1 in the tank cares for it, I have the feeding mesh/clip and i put it in there and everyone swims by and doesn't care for it, ALL my nassarius snail attack it, so i'm basically feeding them expensive food no fish even try it ***! lol...

Blue Tang
Clownfish
Yellow Assesor
Diamond Goby
Bi-Color Blenny
Pygmy Hawkfish

I thought one of them would like it? I tried the feed/mesh clip, i tried breaking it up into pieces and feeding it in like that, and i tried rubberbanding it to a rock, why doesnt anyone like it? lol

I usually feed Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, Cyclopeeze, Pellets.... any ideas on how to get them to try it? I'm sure if they try it they'll love it....

How long have you been feeding it? Takes a few days for the fish to get used to the clip

Same here man. I tried Rod's food and Roggers and there is no comparison. I have been trying for five days now and they just don't like it. I have a whole bag of it if anyone wants it.

eperez25- the main difference IME and since Ive seen what goes into this food is ingredients.

I dunno what's in Rods- specifically but what i do know is that Rogers food has all top notch ingridients and no fillers, thus your fish will eat w/o having excess everywhere around your tank.

All fish eat this food--from CBB to Moorish Idols u name it no such thing as finnicky eaters.

Patience is a virtue!

My fish took awhile to get use to eating it from the mesh bag. Don't worry if they don't eat from it right away. You can shake the bag a bit and parts of the food will come out of the bag. You want them to get use to the bag. When they see the bag it mean dinner time. After a while they will start attacking your hand while you try to grab the bag to put the food in. It will take time so be patience.

try leaving the mesh in the tank even when its not feeding time for them to get used to it!

Rod's food is basically the same as Rogger's in main ingredients, but there are major differences in the minor ingredients.

Rogger's stands out from almost every other fresh seafood blend with the addition of the aloe vera which is probably responsible for being the binder that keeps it from disintegrating when thawed.
Rogger is also a professional chef which means that the quality of his ingredients is most likely held to a higher standard than any other fish food maker on the market.

The original Rod's recipe was noted for the unusual addition of the terrestrial veggies broccoli and carrots.
While Rogger keeps the list of ingredients to a much simpler recipe, Rod seems to be adding new ingredients daily.
The latest addition to the ever-growing list of Rod's ingredients is a miniature type of krill (Euphausia sp.).

To compare,

the current list of ingredients for basic Rod's food is:
Shrimp, Scallop, Oyster, Clam, Squid, Octopus, Perch, Green Nori (porphyra sp), Red unroasted nori (porphyra sp) Mysis, Krill, Pacific plankton (Euphausia sp.) Brine shrimp, Frozen red cyclops, Fish eggs, Oyster eggs, Golden pearls (all sizes), Broccoli, carrot, Garlic, Selco, Astaxanthin (Haematococcus pluvialis), Beta-meal (Dunalliella Salina), rotifers, baby brine shrimp.

the current list of ingredients for basic Rogger's food is:
Shrimp, squid, octopus, shucked fresh clam and juice, mussels, garlic, aloe vera, Cyclop-eeze, and Selcon.

Both will give your fish/reef a well balanced diet, but any time that you change food brand you will need to give your fish time to acclimate.
The best method when changing food is to feed a mixture of half old and half new for the first 1-2 weeks before making the full conversion to the new food.

I have fish of every size and shape and they really dont go for it that much either any longer. They go nuts for the PE Mysis more than anything. I feed them PE Mysis, Krill, Blood Worms, Cyclop-eeze, Green and Red Seaweed all on a daily basis and Thera +A (twice daily on an automatic feeder). Anyone that has seen them in person can attest to how big and healthy they are. They did go for this food well when I tried some samples of it at first but then it got to a point where they just bypassed it and waited for the PE Mysis. It was like they were waiting on the Mysis. When I feed the Mysis its a feeding frenzy. Maybe if I would have quit feeding them everything else and just feed them it they would have had the same reaction as the Mysis?

Kromix, The root of the problem is the way and what they are use to eating, the change is always going to be difficult, have some patience and possibly starve them a little to entice them to eat, eventually they will and once they do you will see the results quickly.

I always compare feeding my fishes to feeding my 4 kids, if I gave my kids the option to eat only what they liked they will choose macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets exclusively every day and they will probably survive, grow, look fat and possibly healthy but somehow I doubt it.

My fatherly instinct, culinary training and simple common sense tells me that they should receive a balance source of proteins, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins etc... and these should come from a variety of sources too.

Mysis are excellent source of protein and fat they are also highly palatable to most fishes, I always keep one in the freezer as a starter food in some extreme cases, however, I avoid them as a single food source because because of the reasons described above and I find them to increase the tank nutrients very rapidly.

I suppose that if you have a fish only tank or a reef tank with a few softies this is not a problem but on a real reef tank you need to watch this.

I have one friend who is having a similar problem as well with the PE Mysis.
I make my own variety food like Rogger's (plus phyto and zooplankton, minus the aloe vera and selecon) which all my fish and friends' fish love... except this one.
Her fish just about go on a hunger strike until she gives them back the PE Mysis again.

While PE Mysis is an excellent fish food, I believe like Rogger that if you limit their diet to a single source you are going to create some form of nutritional deficiency along the chain.

One thing I like, Rogger’s stays together longer allowing fish to nibble rather than just go into a feeding frenzy. In nature most fish nibble all day with an occasional frenzy, the frenzy being the exception not the norm. My fish love Rogger's but had to figure out they had to go to the food instead of the food coming to them in the water column.

Mine took a day or two to get used to the clip. I broke little pieces up when I started so they got a taste of it and figured out it was also in the clip. Now they go crazy for it.

Yea the prolonged feeding thing I don't think is going to work in my tank, since the fish weren't eating it, it gave plenty of time for the Nass snails to get to it, when i turned around and looked @ my tank I had 9-10 Nassarius snails all over the clip tearing that food up lol Atleast they ate it! lol

My fish love both foods. I do let them both defrost in tank water prior to feeding and break up Rogger's food into tiny bits.

The reason I don't use Rogger's exclusively is that Rod's is my way of feeding all my tanks inhabitants, including the corals, because of the oyster eggs.

The cliche "variety is the spice of life" applies to my tank too.

Rogger's food feeds the corals too! Its cool that you used both but theres no need and if you break up Rogger's food into tiny bits it kinda defeats the purpose IMO
