new haddoni carpet

Just got my new carpet in the tank, courtesy of SEA. I dug out a shallow and plopped it in there in hopes that it'll dig down a little and foot to the bottom of the tank. So right now my tank is all murky from digging and I'm having to restrain myself from messing with the nem too much since I'm impatient and want to keep poking and prodding it in hopes that it will set it's foot down.

My two black ocellaris are curious, as is my peppermint shrimp... nothing else has cared much about it yet. It's definitely sticky too, when I was putting it in the tentacles stuck to the side of my tank for a few minutes before I could coax it off. I'll snap some pictures tonight or tomorrow.... It's a green nem, but I think it's a bit bleached at the moment... it's pretty light. I just plan on feeding it shrimp regularly and hopefully it'll grow and color up!

Not just the pic - I'm pretty sure it's bleached. Hopefully nothing a little TLC can't take care of.

Good luck, I have always loved Hadonis. Just never been brave enough to keep one with my fish.

Good luck. I've seen them even eat their own clowns!

Yeah, I expect to lose some fish... Not too worried about it. When I get my dream tank (180-240 gallons) it'll have plenty of room to stretch out and not eat things. For now, it's inevitable since it's a 40breeder. I suspect my curious peppermint shrimp will be the first to go.

Very cool. Does that mean SEA is open for real now?

I’m sure the bleaching is from transport and what not. I hear if they’re stick really sticky that’s a good sign. In a couple days or so I’d try feeding it.

Well it has shrunk significantly and the mouth is distended... Looks like this might turn out to be a very expensive mistake.

I would have waited to see if it colored up before buying it. Bleached nems can be hard to bring back. Hopefully yours turns out okay. If it starts to go, be sure to take it out ASAP. You don't want it dying in your tank -- it can take out the rest of the tank with it.

yeah - it's looking almost back to the way it was before now.... I would have waited if it weren't a special order, I asked them to order this specific type in for me. I'll just keep an eye on my chemistry and hope it stays in good health. I think i'm also going to buy some window screens at home depot tomorrow to shade it a bit, my light may be a bit strong to just jump under. 4x39watt t5ho with tek2 reflectors... the reflectors supposedly triple the light output.

Regarding feeding this thing, any place in town to buy raw/uncooked shrimp etc? Obviously it needs to be safe for reef feeding... Don't know if some products are better than others in that respect. I have a bag of raw shrimp from target, I'm just nervous about feeding my new critter the wrong thing.

im not sure, honestly. It switches back and forth between the photos above and VERY scrunched up. I keep thinking it's a goner and then it opens back up. The thing is stressing me out!

Well the anemone is no more. It puffed out a milky white fluid last night which I assume is a last ditch effort at spawning before death. He was face down and inside out this morning so I flushed him.

Oh well, lesson learned. I think it was a combination of not being 100% healthy after shipping when I bought it and probably mistakes I made with my first nem (I don't know what mistakes I made, necessarily, but I'm sure there were a few.)

I won't be trying the anemone thing again until I'm in a much larger tank... It got surprisingly crowded in my tank when it would open up.

I'm glad to hear that it didn't crash your tank.

i am not sure that you have enough light for anenome, i have been told they need a lot of light in the range of 4 to 5 watts per gallon.

I had 156 watts of t5ho over 40 gallons... Add the tek2 reflectors which supposedly triple the output and I don't think light was the issue. I had to shade it when I put it in, it would close up when the lights turned on if I didn't.
