RO/DI unit placement help!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to pick your collective brains about where to place my new RO/DI unit. I just got it in the mail from BRS. I have a few questions:

Where do you place RO/DI units? How do you get the water from the source to the tank?

How do you store the water? I've heard that people use garbage cans to store the water but how do you get the water from there to the tank?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pictures would be great too. Thanks!

It really is all plumbing and the installation location should be chosen based on source location and tank location, you need an adapter of some kind for the in, usually supplied when you buy the system, I just bought a Y connector and take water from the washer connection, same thing for storage, more plumbing, I use a 55 gallon drum to store the water, DO USE A SHUT OFF FLOAT on your storage container you will be glad you did.

All depends on the amount of room you have.

In my last house I had a hose line in the basement. I mounted the RO/DI on the wall and ran it to a 32 gallon Brute container.

In my new loft, I have considerably less space. Here's my new setup:

In my guest bathroom I was able to put my BRS 5 stage RODI under the sink. I can shut it off with the ball-valve attached to it which is important since I need to disconnect the hose from my storage container before moving it or opening it.


For water collection/storage, I found this "Gamma Vittles Vault" which is a 50# dry food storage container made of food-grade plastic. It is 14x14x20 and holds 15 gallons PERFECTLY which is exactly what I use for my water changes. I make 15 gal of RODI and the night before I do a change, I will add my salt, a powerhead and a heater, and then on change day I can wheel it out and do the change pretty easily. This seemed like the perfect container for a small space. (not pictured, I added a ball-valve right above the storage container because the RO-DI system has pressure and excess water in it. This way I can stop the water and have no drip when I wheel the change water around).
