Exclamation Tank issue

Im using my brothers account because hes overseas and i cant get ahold of him, but i know he gets alot of help from you guys on here so i figured i would try.

Here is where im at.

tank=75gallon
sump=20g long(water is sitting 8" high)
fuge= 8"x11"(middle section of sump)
lighting= 2-400w / PFO ballasts / 10k bulbs
skimmer= NAC-6
powerheads= 3-koralia#2's
return=mag 9(tuned down a bit)

Ive had the tank up and running for about 4months now. Everything is stable, ive been testing my water and things are at the levels they should be. So the other day i changed out my wet/dry filter for a sump with a fuge which my brother made. Everything is going fine. The upgraded skimmer is doing work, fish still seemed fine as could be. Next morning the water looked cloudy / fish were breathing heavy....

Now the ONLY thing that changed was the fact we added another 5g of water(which i got from my tap and DEFFFFINATLLLY forgot to use the conditioner) i think that was/is the problem. Today one of my fish died and 3 of my snails, the rest look fine. I also did a 20g water change yesterday using the RO water.

sooo im worried more of my fish will die, what might my problem be? Ammonia spike possibly?

Possible oxygen issue? Did you test the water that is going to be the first thing everyone asks. Parameters? I dont think the dechlor will cause an issue. I never use dechlor.

Did you test for ammonia? Ammonia will cloud the water and the bioballs in the sump you removed house a lot of beneficial bacteria, pulling them all at once may have upset the system.

Do you have Liverock? What is your biological filtration now?

Not sure if it is, how would i know if it was a oxygen issue? The water that was put in i didnt test, but i know the salinity was fine... otherwise i know i failed.

The two things that stick out are the tap water (which can be bad enough on it's own but you did not dechlorinate it which made things worse) and the swap out of the wet dry to the sump. Did the wet/dry have bioballs/ceramic rings in it?

Is your Tap particularly high in Total Dissolved solids? Cloudiness could be an algae bloom?

I will have to put money on the wet dry to sump swap. sence it had bioballs in it you took away alot of the bacteria which could have caused a ammonia spike.

+1 on the bio balls. You should have taken these out slowly and not all at the same time.
