Should I get 6x48" ho or 8x48" HO T5 lighting for a 90 gallon 19"x48"x20" fish tank
6x48" ho or 8x48" HO T5 lighting for a 90 gallon 19"x48"x20" fish tank. So the 6x48" is 54w each bulb so is 324 watts (3.6w per gallon) or should I get the 8x48" which will be 432 watts (4.8w per gallon). Am planning reef tank with anemones and some sps.

I would probably suggest the eight bulb selection if you can fit it. More bulb choices means more color options....also more par. That's the beauty of T5 lighting.

The 6 bulb will work fine, but as mentioned above you will be able to dial in some great color combos and addtional PAR value with the 8 bulb set up.

Your best bet would be a 6x54w ATI power module. Not too large for the tank and the most PAR out of any T5 fixture.

Either will be a nice setup. The 8 bulb i would go with if you were doing sps. I of course will also recommend 2x250w halides but.. you asked about t5's.. so.. lol.

Ok, going with the 8 bulb. Dang this fixture is huge. 19" wide. That is about as wide as my tank.

Standard 90 is only 18" wide.. so you may want to double check :-)

Definitely wider than your tank.
I'm telling you, the 6x54w ATI power module fixture will do everything you need it to and more. FAR better than any other brand's 8x54 or 10x54. Research the ATI power module. |

I would love that fixture, BUT $700 is out of my price range right now. Looks really nice though. I heard ATI is one of the best. This tank is already costed me almost $2 g's. Ouch!

Also the 8 bulb is slightly bigger than my tank width wise. Tank is like 19" and so is the lighting setup. So with the back part of the light takes up like 4 inches, so will this be too big or will it be ok. I am planning for another tank, probably 125 later like in a year or so...so I kinda wanna get the 8 bulb, but if not, will go for the 6. Also, can I just run 6 bulbs in the 8 bulb for a while till I get some sps in a few months.

Really 6x54w is plenty for your tank. Yes 8 would be more power, but so would 2x400w halides vs 2x250w...
