Transferring Ich on coral from tank to tank??
Certainly it is possible I would imagine, so how do we minimize it is the question.
My thought is: Take the coral and during the acclimation period, make sure the water in the container is completely changed out. Ensuring no water from original tank enters the new system I use A coral dip for other various coral pests, but as I have worked very hard to QT every fisha nd ensure ich does not enter the DT, I dont want to blow it on a coral transfer. Although I have QT tanks for Fish, none for coral are avail.... Thanks for your thoughts and comments. |

You should be QT'ing all corals as well. That is the ONLY sure way to not end up with unwanted pests. I had been really lucky as I never QT'ed anything for the first five years of this hobby and now I am really regretting it. I have just about every pest there is. AEFW, Red Bugs and my fish have ICH!! All I can say is lesson learned. EVERYTHING will be getting QT from now on.

Read up on the life cycle of Ich and see if it even can be transferred by rock or corals.. I don't think it can.

It is definitely possibly for ich to be transferred by corals and rock. When the parasite falls off to reproduce, the tomonts can be all over the tank including sand, rock, and corals. If you transfer something with a tomont on it into another tank, it can hatch and release thousands of parasites.

I would say it would be unlikely for the ich to be transferred, but certainly not a sure thing.
I don't really know how well the tormonts stick to things. A fresh water dip or medicated dip would have no effect on the tormont stage. |
