RO DI setup

So I remodeled my house and piped a water line to my backyard so that I can setup my RO/DI unit. My question is What type of container do you store your water in? Is there any concern with liners inside the container? For example, lots of people are complaining about the plastic bottle liner that's supposed to be detrimental to your health. Is there a same concern with our RO/DI?

As a follow-up newb question, do I need power for my RO/DI unit?

While you should be careful to use a clean, non-metal container, the BPA concern is pretty negligible, as it only becomes biologically available in a significant amount when the water is heated pretty hot. Plus, I think they have started to phase out that specific form of synthetic estrogen, the only number plastics that can have it are 3 and 7.

You shouldn't need power unless you are running a booster pump because your water pressure is too low for the unit.

As for RO/DI water storage. I store mine in 5 gallon food grade water containers. I got them from Mills Fleet Farm for about $6 each. You want to use food grade plastics for water or saltwater storage since the non-food grade kinds can leech out contaminants that can be harmful to marine life. There's an article on the marine depot forum by Eric Borneman about this if you would like to research it futher about the plastic Brute cans.

So I'm looking at the Kent Marine Deluxe Hi-S

The PDF says garden hose attachment. Do I adjust water pressure with the standard valve on the garden hose?

In addition, are there attachments for sink faucets?

You can pick up fittings from a hardware store to mount it under a sink. Most people seem to mount them inside the house and/or under the sink. Mine just taps into the valve at the wall under the sink.

There are attachments for just about any way you want to do it. Look at BRS, they have them. The way I understand booster pumps is they have an adjustment on them to run about 60 psi. I have to get one for my system and it needs power to run it. Only runs when you run the pump though. Make sure you get one with the transformer too.

Thanks for your input!

Has/Does anyone put their RO/DI water into 60 gallon large rubbermaid containers Or should I just buy a smaller RO/Di unit and place in 5 gallon water jugs?

My tank is a 150 (60x24x24)

I use rubbermaid containers with no issues at all. I think I've even read on here someone said that their containers are all food grade compliant.

Those 55 gallon cans that you can attach the wheel dolly to from home depot are awesome for carting around water.

Lots of people just use rubbermaid trash cans. The problem with those containers you are looking at is they are not made to really hold liquid. They will bow on the sides, a lid wont fit, and over time, they will try and crack.

Try any thicker trash can you can get at walmart/home depot. Lots of people prefer the "Brute" trash cans because they are thick plastic and hold water great.

I just got my RO/DI unit from Bulf Reef Supply. I absolutely love it! Really easy to install and they even have videos online if you need additional help. Don't forget to get a float valve to automatically shut off the water when it reaches a certain level.

Ah, water pressure. I think that you should be fine turning it all the way up. I run mine with a booster pump and it hovers around 98 psi (150 gpd unit) since I don't have enough pressure coming out of my sink. The kent has a pressure gauge so you just want to make sure that you have enough for the RO membrane.

You always want to use cold water for making RO/DI and with the outside garden hose you should be fine. You can get facet attachments,. Just be sure to use cold water only since the hot water can damage the RO membrane.
