How many power heads to get?

Well I am upgrading to a 40 gallon soon, and I want to put in two power heads into my display tank. I would put them at the top right and top left of the tank and point them downwards to make an "X" shaped flow. I am thinking about getting 2 Hydor Koralia Evolution 750 gph. Too much flow? Too little flow?

It does depend and overtime your needs may change. Those flow rates you listed give a turnover of 37.5X, which is a good starting point.

also,i would recommand you put them in the top corners, one pointing to rear one to front to cause a circular flow pattern.....2 #4 evos would work fine....my 120 has 4 #4 evos in a circular pattern.....great flow

I have 2 750s in my 65 and it is just fine. 65 and 40 have the same footprint.
