What do i do with new reef sand? HELP PLEASE.

I am going to buy some new sand for my reef tank when i get my sand i heard i have to soak it in saltwater first if this is true how long do i soak it in the water for

nope not true. Depending on the sand you might have to rinse it.

If it is live sand then just dump it in. If its dry reef sand then you might want to rinse it with fresh water to remove some of the dust to keep clouding the water to a minimum.

Either way I think your adding it to an established tank. To minimize dusting take a 2-3" diameter by 2 foot long pvc pipe and using a cup pour the sand into the pipe as it sits on the bottom. This will let you get the sand down to the bottom without creating a huge snow storm.

if its dry sand rinse it with the garden hose until you wash some of the cloudy out without loosing to many fines.

if its live sand as stated above its plug and play

I always rinse mine with RO but that's just because I am OCD about pollutants.
