Flow for my 29g bowfront?

I am running a 29g bowfront, plenty of live rock, prob too much, lol. I have a maxijet 1200, and when I first put it in the tank, I didnt understand how anyone could have like 50x in a tank. Now, I have the 1200 and a return from my fuge. The return is provided by a quietone 1200, which at the head height is prob another 160-200gph... I feel like I need another powerhead on the opposite side of the tank, because I do get some junk that lays on the rocks. Placement is also a question. I have the powerhead on the right side, in the middle... Do I need another powerhead for flow, or am I good where I am at? I only have a few beginner corals at the moment....

anyone? was thinking about the koralia evo series... what would be good the 750, 1050, or 1400?

If you are going to move into SPS coral you will need to get your flow up to 30 to 40 times your DT volume. For many easier to care for corals like zoas, you have enough flow if there are not any "dead" zones with little or no flow. Experiment with different powerhead placement and/or direction of discharge.

I started out with 2 Maxi-jet 600's when I had a 29g and quickly replaced one with a Koralia 2. I didn't like the narrow flow on the Maxi-jet. I think adding a 750 or 1050 would be good for your tank.

I ordered a 1050...seriously, this seems like overkill, lol... I get some sand moving with just the maxijet sometimes... does anyone have any pics of the placement of their powerheads? my tank is 24'' wide, so this should be fun trying to put it in a place where it doesnt make a sandstorm, lol

with it being such a small tank i am torn on this, i had 3 koralia 1's in my 20, then i upgraded to a 40b and have an mp20 at full blast in there now...after going to the vortech, i do not think i will have anything else. when i get a bigger tank i will link mp40s. if you are able to find a good deal on a used mp10 or mp20, i would get that hands down and sell off the maxi and evo....or keep them for a frag tank.

Id love to have a vortech, but the price is way too much for me, at least for quite a while... 1050 gph, 294(maxijet) and 160-200gph(return)...so this is 50x turnover. Holy moly, lol... Needless to say, I should be able to keep just about any coral in the future once I get my nitrates in check, right?

my 29 [not a bowfront] does fine with 2 Koralia 2's - one is the original #2 and the newer one is the 1050. Plenty of flow to eliminate dead zones and for SPS. you can arrange rock to create areas of less flow for LPS and others that don't like as much movement. As for the sand blowing around I've found that dripping kalk with white vinegar has helped to create a crust on the substrate over time that prevents the sandstorm. Put 2t of Ms. Wage's in a gallon jug, add 3T of white vinegar and swish until mixed. Top off with a gallon of RO/DI - no need for further mixing - let it settle and start dripping. The crust should begin to form within a few days to a week or so.
