Clown jumped out of tank. Need tank cover suggestions at lowes or Home Depot?

Clown jumped out of tank. Need tank cover suggestions at lowes or Home Depot?

Is there a clear mesh that can be purchased at home depot or lowes. Don't want to use egg crate. Blocks too much light.

I bought some clear mesh from a guy on Ebay and got some screen frame kits from Home Depot and made some tops for my tank. Do a search on Ebay for 1/4" Polypropylene mesh and you'll find it.

BRS sells clear netting and window framing to make your own tank cover. It looks like they're out of the framing right now, but you could get a screen frame kit from Lowes.

wouldn't the white fluorescent reflector work? the one with a bunch of squares in it. Wouldn't blow light much at all.

i think that would deflect quite a bit of light. would lose fair amount of lateral light. after all, that's what they were designed for, no?

I made a top for my tank using stuff from home depot/ lowes. Get those corner screen kits with four corner pieces, some spline that fits in it and a spline tool (optional, I already had one but I guess you could just use flat head screwdriver instead), some black (or whatever color you want) screen frame, and some bird/ deer/ pond netting (I think it's called "bird guard".) They have the netting out in the outdoor section near the ponds. I think they use it to prevent deer/ birds from eating plants or to keep falling leaves out of ponds. It's black nylon that is made with about the same hole sizes of egg crate, and it doesn't block significant light. I also added a knob with nylon screws so it's easier to open. Estimated cost-
Screen corner kit: $2.00
Spline: $4.00
Screen frame: $2.50 for 8 feet
Bird netting: $8.00 (unfortunately they only have large amounts, but it can be used for many screens)
Knob: $1.50
Nylon screws: $1.00
Total: about $19.00, but with all the extra material each additional lid should only be about $4.50 (corners, knob and screws.)

Mine were easy to make, took about 20 minutes. Hope that helps.
Bryan

clear screen for doors or windows will work but get nylon so it wont rust.

I went to a local hardware store and had them cut down remnants of clear acrylic sheets. It worked perfectly. Not expensive if u use remnants.
