150W MH replacement - 14k phoenix or 20k radium
Hey everyone, it is about time for me to replace the lights in my fixture. They are currently a 10k bulb...unsure of brand as they were with the light when I bought it used. Anyhoo, I have a 150W MH double-ended light over my 25g tank. I was asking some of the local reefers about brands they suggested, and the 14k phoenix and 20k radiums seemed to have the most support. They said both give pretty good pop on coral colors which is a complaint I have against my current lights. I'd also like a bit more blue in the color so I'm not opposed to using bluer lights. Which of these lights would you all suggest? And how well do corals tend to grow under each? Thanks!

I use the Phoenix 14k for both 150w and 250w. Comparing price vs performance, the Pheonix is hard to beat. Google "Phoenix MH" and you can find them in the low to mid $40 range. Radium would be about $20 more. The Phoenix has a nice blue cast.
Radium is a great bulb if money is not a concern when you consider you are buying two bulbs a year per fixture. |
