best treatment for possible ich or velvet disease
Hi to all the people at Reef Central I am new to this site. I need some advise, I got a 100 gal (first tank) from a guy that was moving. I had my LFS hold the fish for me until the move was complete. Once I placed the fish back in the tank within 4 days my purple tang had several white dots. Now it has started to look like whitish film covering the whole fish and now my clowns have some of the same symptoms. Any ideas what it may be and the best treatment
water conditions are good, have some corals too thanks, MCSO CST |

If you can get pictures, it would help.
Most likely, you're going to need to move the fish out of the main display tank and into some hospital setup (I use a rubbermade bin), as any treatment in the main tank is going to play havoc with the live rock and inverts/corals. If you're dealing with velvet, one of the better treatments is copper. You can find it at a fish store - be very very careful with the dosage and directions for treatment. Copper is death for any invertebrate life and cannot be used in your main tank. Itch may be better treated by hyposalinity.

Coppersafe is good, but Red Sea's Paracure or Seachem's Cupramine are better. Test frequently and dose accordingly, and you'll be good to go. Good Luck.
