Dead Coralline/White "stuff" growing on it. Help
Hey everyone. I am very new to the hobby as far as having my own set up but I have been doing little bits of research here and there while I messed around with fresh water tanks for 6 years. So here I am now, barely a month into the game and I need some help....
I bought a 24gal nano, used from a friend of mine. It was well established with a decent amount of coralline growing on the back of the tank. I was getting ready to move so the tank sat for three weeks, presumably killing the coralline. About 4 days ago I finally got it set up in my new place and when I got it all up and running the coralline in the back turned white which isn't the concern. The concern is that now I have very fine white, stringy "stuff" growing where the dead coralline is. I've tried looking online for what it could possibly be (white hair algae/fungus) but I've not really been able to find anything substantial in terms of an answer. Does anyone know what it could possibly be? I'll see if my camera can focus on it tomorrow and get a picture up. Thanks! |

Yeah, pictures help. It could be worms, or bacterial, or several other things. Really hard to diagnose without pictures. Probably part of a cycling thing though. Can you tell us what is in the tank and all the parameters?

Thanks for the welcome/responses. I did all these measurements at the end of the day before I was able to top off my evaporation so they could be a little off of "normal" but not by very much I'd imagine.
Calcium ≈ 410ppm Phosphates ≈ 0 Nitrate = 0 Ph ≈ 7.8 Alkalinity ≈ 2.5 Salinity/SG = 36/1.027 Water temp = 80.1 Using RO/DI water As for whats in the tank the only thing I have in it at the moment is 20lbs of live sand. I was actually planning on going out and getting my live rock tomorrow but I wanted to try and figure out what I was dealing with in my tank before hand. The pictures aren't the best but hopefully its detailed enough that you can give me an idea of what's going on. |

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. Hopefully it just takes care of itself and it will be over and done with in a week or so.
