derasa color

Attachment 4867Attachment 4868Attachment 4869

So I bought a Derasa last week, and it's pretty cool. I'm just wondering why the colors that show up when you look strait down are so much more vibrant and neon as opposed to when you look from the front? Is there a way I can change this so I can actually see those colors without taking the light off?

It is the same with all clams -- and really nothing you can do about it.

and I assume if I were to tilt it forwards a bit, it would just tilt back? I just find it so weird that the color is so intense when your looking at it from above, but I guess it makes sense because the pigment/ colored part is deeper in the tissue (like a pore).

it's not really a pigment, which is a color in a cell. the clam's light reflecting cells are called iridophores and they allow different light to shine off them and other spectrum not to [or something sorta like that, scientifically]. cephalopods have chromatophores which allow for rapid color shift, so it's related to that, the way i understand it.
