Water Movement
Been reading a lot about water flow in tank. I have a 135 reef tank and am thinking about adding a wavemaker. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've read I need 15-20 times tank volume in flow current - is this correct? I currently have 2 Maxijet 1200s with kits that increase flow. Also have small pump on UV sterilizer, Rio pump on skimmer and the filter pump so I should have plenty of current. The 2 Maxis are on each end so flow is pretty much across the tank and down in front center. Has anyone tried the Hydor FLO rotating deflectors? I just can't see how turning pumps off and on is good for the pumps??

15-20 is kinda on the lower end, but alot depends on what corals you want to keep.
maxijets are one of the best powerheads to put on a wave maker. they are built real well. The hydor FLO things IMO suck they get clogged way to easy and seem to cut off alot of flow. |
