recommended pump size

i am currently undertaking a 30g build for a "refugium breeding tank". My main interest in this tank is to raise micro flora and fauna, pods as well as cheato and various macros, essentially a detached refugium. the purpose is to have this tank supplement my solana and various tanks as well as tanks in the future. my only question so far is what would be the recommended amount of flow? the system a simple 30g tall with a 10g sump. i was thinking about having the flow somewhere around 250 gph and supplement as needed. too much? too little? please tell me what you think. thanks.

brad

tough one! It's like lighting, many variables. If you want primarily water filtration via macro and micro algaes then I would say at least 10 times the flow rate for the algaes because IME they are much more efficient when there is more flow. Pods should do well too as long as they have macros to hide out in.
