what if i removed my LR and put it in a QT tank?
I have 2 pieces of LR about 10lbs each. One is loaded with green algae and diatoms. What if I took that piece and put it in my QT tank. Would that help get rid of the algae and diatoms faster? I could use a little more room in the DT(17g) tank also.
Then could i later place the removed LR back in the tank? I've read that you should not put LR in an established tank. my DT is about 1.5 months old. |

Just leave it where it the algae will go away with time it is common in a new tank. Lr can be added to a established tank but it must be fully cured.

The rock is holding a lot of the good bacteria you want. If you remove it, you will lose some of that. You could probably get away with it though. What is in the tank right now? But if you are just going to put it back in, then leave it there. Like Mike said, you can add cured live rock to an established tank.
Edit: btw, the other rock will just end up with the diatoms, etc anyway if that is the only reason to remove it. |
