What fish to breed?
I am new to the hobby but my first tank was a 125 Gallon flat back hex. I am proud of it because I know newbies to this hobby usually start much smaller at first. I will be upgrading already to a 240 gallon L shaped tank in the next month or two and want to start breeding fish in my tank but don't know what species are capable of doing so other than the Bagai, and Clown. If anyone could help me out with this I would appreciate it. Thanks

welcome to reef central, there are hundresds of things you could breed, If I had that kind of real estate I would try Mandarins. I would suggest you start reading up on raising live foods like rotifers and microalgea, feeding them when they hatch seems to be a large part of the battle, also you won't be rearing these in the main system nromally, so find a place for multiple tanks!

you need to do a whole lot of reading before trying to breed fish. 1 large tank isn't sufficient, you'll probably need to setup 2-3 smaller tanks to raise the fry in.
also you need to know what type of fish you want to breed, theres really only a couple dozen that people regularly breed because most have an extremely long planktonic state which makes it near impossible to the home aquarist. also it's a full-time job, give up all other hobbies and plans, no vacations either, even doing all this it could be a year or more till they fish you purchase start breeding. also going bigger isn't going to help anything, if you really want to breed fish setup 4-5 30g tanks and a couple 10's |
