Needing help controlling algae
I've read tons of stuff on here and all over the Internet on how to control and rid my tank of green hair algae. So far none of them have worked.
Here are some specs on my system: 46 gallon bowfront 60lbs live rock 20lbs sand PC lighting with new bulbs AquaC remora hang on skimmer Koralia 4 ph Cascade canister filter with 2 phosphate pads, 1 carbon, 1 ammonia and some live rock. With API test kit my nitrates are 0 and ph 8.3. I have 3 small fish a big clean up crew and mixed corals. I have read a lot of good things about Algaefix marine but I'm afraid this will cover up my problem instead of solve it. I've read a lot of good things about dosing mb7 and vodka to export the nitrates and phosphates but I don't know if it's recommended for LPS, softies and zoas? I do a 25% wc every other week and harvest as much of the gha as possible. It seems to have stopped spreading but it's not decreasing at all. Does anyone have any advise on the Algaefix marine or the mb7/vodka dosing on mixed reef? How about any other info that could help me out? This battle has been going on for about 7 months and I'm ready to get rid of it! Thanks in advance for any advise. |

Before dosing vodka I would look into a refugium with macro (chaeto). This is generally set up in a sump but there are in tank and hang on refugiums as well.
When you say phosphate pads I'm not really sure what the media is. Is it GFO? |

The phosphate pads are just phosphate absorbing filter media. It's just a pad like carbon pads. I def don't have room for a sump that's why I have the canister and hang on skimmer.
Yes I am using ro water. Not ro/di just ro. |
