transporting LR and other LR questions, help please!

Ok. I have a 40g breeder that i want to cycle for FOWLR. a guy in my area(20mins away) is selling about 50lbs of LR. the 40g breeder isnt ready for another 2weeks(need sand, paint stand, light).

1) Can I just put the 50lbs LR in a big rubbermaid container with water(does it have to be SW or just RO/DI is fine?) during transport in my car.

2)Then can I hold it in an empty 29g I have. Does this 29g has to have sp gravity of 1.020+? I will have a Koralia 1400 in it. Does it need light or will a very lit room is fine?

3)on my other 17g DT(25lbs LR/20lbs Live Sand/2 clownfish), can I take out one 10lb LR piece from the tank and replace it with a 10lb LR piece that I bought? This tank has been running for about 2 months.
I've read DO NOT ADD LR to established tank.

4)if I have this LR in the 40g breeder during cycle, will it become dead rock due to ammonia spike?

Thanks!

1. the rubermaid container will be great, just keep it covered in SW and it will stay helthy. RODI only will kill it.

2. the 29 gal. will be fine as long as you can keep it all covered. a sg. of 1.023-1.026 is preferred. also a powerhead and heater will be needed.

3. I would put the rock in a seperate container for a few days just to make sure the new rock is cured before adding it to the established tank.

4. there will be plenty of life that will survive on the LR during the ammonia spike. and it will stay Live.

just to clarify,

so can i just keep the 50lbs of LR covered in the 29g w/powerhead for a couple of weeks. use a blanket and cover it from light?

then transfer 10lbs of it directly to my 17g DT tank, and use the remaining for the 40g breeder to use with cycling?

yes. you will basically be cooking the LR if you keep it covered but that is ok, all it will do is get rid of any unwanted algae. but you will still have lots of life on the rock.
