Drilling holes for beans overflow

I am getting ready to take my tank to a shop to have the holes drilled for a beans overflow. Does anyone know the best dimensions for this type of overflow? I am thinking of running it inside my tank with an overflow length of about 4 feet. The tank is 6 feet total. The overflow will be 5 inches deep and 3 inches wide. How's that sound? Also this is an all-glass tank with the trim. How far down from the trim should I drill the holes, i'm thinking so that they are about half way between top and bottom of the overflow? (the top of the overflow will be touching the bottom of the trim therefore you won't be able to see the water line). And what would be the best way to have them to this, should i cut out a cardboard template and bring that to them?

Bean had the center of his holes 4.25 inches from top of trim. ( I looked it up today)
I recently did mine the same. My overflow is 5 tall and 4inches deep. I dont think you will get the elbows in and out much thinner.

I drilled mine as close to the top as I could without the nut from the bulkhead getting in the way of the trim.

My overflow box is 7" deep x 4.75" wide. The width is ok, but the box could have been only probably 5.5" deep. You need to leave enough room to take it apart if need be (due to a leaking gasket maybe).
