Can I use this aquarium??

Hello,

I have an old 20Gal AGA tank that has been sitting in the garage for about a year... I pulled it out and was going to use it fr QT on my new setup, but I noticed the plastic trim is cracked at one of the bottom corner and there is also a hairline crack on the top rim on one of the shorter sides...The glass and silicone are fine.

Can I use this tank? Can I somehow fix/reinforce the plastic trim? Or should I throw it away and get a new one??

Thanks

I wouldn't have too many problems with it due to it being only used as a QT tank. I've been running a 20 high with cracked bottom trim for 8 years straight now.

If you're really concerned, I hear PetCo has their dollar a gallon sale again

one of my QT's has a huge crack in the glass itself accross teh entire back. I siliconed it heavily, let it dry and it holds water
Small tanks don't have alot of water in them to push outward.

It's probably fine, but I'd certainly do a test fill on it first. At worst, you should be able to find another tank that size for under $30.

Unless you set it up in the basement where there is a drain in the floor I would'nt chance it. Just set it out for the garbage and buy a new one.

Thanks all for the replies...
Unfortunately, the nearest Petco is 2 1/2 hrs from me...and that is also the nearest place to buy any kind of aquarium, except for the occasional 10G I see at Wal-Mart, which is still an hour away...

If its just the plastic trim, I'd superglue it and call it good on a small tank. Leak test it for a week or so if you are worried about it, but if it held water for a day or so I'd call it good in my house.

Trim isn't an issue, use it. I have a 55 with broken trim that's been in use for the last couple years with no problems.

Yeah if the only problem is the trim you should be fine. Although I would still do a fill test for a couple of days to make certain that its only the trim.
