Finally going to pull the trigger, DIY rimless

I want to make a qt tank to match my frag tank, the tank I have is 48"x24"x10" 1/2" glass all the way around, this tank is way over built. my question is can I get away with 3/8" glass safely? If I do go with 3/8's would it be a good idea to do an internal euro-brace on the bottom for more silicon contact at the bottom?
