On a tank that small you can get by without a DSB, chaeto and a skimmer if you wanted to. If anything, I'd just invest in a good skimmer and be done with it. Keep up on your water changes and your set. Very simple.

Thanks for the answers..well I just wanted to check out myself that having a DSB is really of any good in the long run or not.But in such a small tank , I am not sure if its worth taking the risk.So just wanna clarify with you people.

Unless you are keeping a pistol shrimp or jawfish it is a waste of space.

Yeah, no DSB in a nano. I'm running a nano on nothing more than flow and weekly 50% water changes.

If you were planning on a jawfish, then adding a sandbed would be a good idea

Thanks dmarkham..so if i donot go for a pistol shrimp or a jawfish , the DSB is not going to function? Can't i have it with only live sand and lots of copepods?

No theatrus...no jawfish planned to keep.

You really shouldn't keep a dragonet in a 15g: just not big enough for them to be reasonably happy, imho, and probably not big enough to feed them---especially if this is your first experience with a marine tank setup. And they're the primary (though not the only) fish that eat pods. A 15 g with a nice sump will happily support the smallest of the gobies and maybe a blenny, maybe a royal gramma, but softie corals would be your best investment.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny, royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.

Thanks sk8r of r the reply.Well I have only a tank bred cardinal pair in mind along with lots of zoas and mushrooms and rics and yumas. But I am just concerend about the DSB. Some say donot have pistol shrimp or jawfish as they would disturb your DSB and hence defeat the pirpose of having it.Some say you need to have them for the success of the sand bed....I fail to understand which way should I go.
