How much does an empty tank weigh

Is there a formula to compute how much an empty tank weighs? I would like to know approximately how much does a AGA 210gal (72x24x29) weigh

You'd need to know the thickness of glass used to calculate correctly.

Looking at internet sources, a 180g weighs in at 340 pounds empty, so I'd expect somewhere in the 360-400lbs area.

I'd go with 6 big guys if you have any stairs. A moving dolly would help.

I hired a moving company when I moved my 180g (now sold).

No stairs. Just a straight shot into the walkout basement.

You may also, with a long tank, want to stabilize it with some gentle (not cranked!) strapping to help protect it from torque, which can spring seams. Best of all would be to set it on a piece of plywood of the same size, and carry it that way. What works for pianos can work with tanks. Be careful turning it any way that stresses seams that have no support.

Yeah but have you ever tried to tune a tank? What a pain. The resonant frequency of a percula clown is so much different than the intonations of a hippo tang. Plus neither fish really likes it when you whack them with the tuning fork.

Sorry stupid humor... couldn't resist.

get those lift straps that you put underneath and on 2 people's forearms. those things are amazing! we used them to carry our washer and dryer upstairs and our washer is HEAVY. you have more control with the moving straps. http://www.google.com/#q=moving+stra...8f32f65b860aba
