Metal Halides and the electric bill

Is there a formula to calculate how much the use of 2x 250 MH for 8hrs a day make your electric bill go up

2 x 250w MH running 8 hours per day is about 4.8 kWh per day. Find out your electrical rate (probably somewhere between 15 and 35 cents per kWh) and multiply times 4.8 to get the daily cost.

For instance, if your cost is 15 cents per kWh, your daily cost for the MH lamps will be 72 cents, or about $21 per month.

Curious how you came up with that calculation. I wasnt taught to do it that way.

8 hrs per day x 30 days = 240 hrs. per month
240 x 500 watts = 120,000 watt hours
120,000 / 1,000 = 120 (A kilowatt (kW) is 1000 watts)
120 kW x 0.15 = $18.00 per month

To the OP, if you dont know your rate, get your last bill. Divide the bill by kWh used.

1. Total bill amount is $93.97
2. Total kWh (kilowatt hours) consumed 1,038 kWh
3. Total Cost $93.97 ÷ 1038 kWh = $.09053 per kWh
