What's this attached to the back of my new Lobo frag?

And should I get rid of it? I assume it's some sort of sponge or something, but would it irritate/harm the coral? It looks, bizarrely, like some sort of translucent rubber hose winding round the rock.

Is it a good idea to get rid of things like sponges as well anyway? At the same time, I got the Acan below and it has a sponge on the right hand side of the rock. I'll be removing the couple of pieces of algae tomorrow, to avoid it irritating the coral, but should I also scrape off the sponge?

Sponge or worm play house most likely

Is this a good time to bring up quarantine tanks?

There's never a bad time to bring up quarantine tanks, I'm guessing. I should have one, I know, but persuading my better half that I should have another small tank set up for just this purpose is a work in progress.

That aside, what would your advice be? Remove the tube, or leave it be?

Im a shoot first ask questions later type of guy when it comes to this.....in fact, I never put any plug or base I got into my tank.....too many creepy crawlers like to hide in and around there. In fact was reading an old thread about how some AEFW eggs were on ZOA!!!! polyps today!!

The tank doesn't need to be fancy, big, or even set up......get a small 10g or bigger and through some display water in it....a small filter, a power head, heater and a small clip on or PC's and your in buisness. When not needed, put it in the closet.

Quite right. I think I'm on the verge of getting clearance to buy (I'm one of those get permission rather than forgiveness guys, maybe that's my downfall). It'll be my next purchase before any other fish/coral.

I took the frag out and removed the tubing/did some thorough probing of holes in the rock with some tweezers and a toothpick. No sign of a worm, but I'll keep an eye on it. Also removed the sponge from the Acan frag.
