To leak or not to leak....

I've had a number of possts on my 55g's leaky legacy. I don't have pics at the moment, may get some later today. But, I checked the bottom of my tank as my wife says she keeps "hearing" the tank crack.

I kept a close eye on it and just a couple days ago the bottom of the glass around the moldings was completely soaked. To the point there was a couple drops on the bottom, mixed with salt. About a half inch out from the plastic molding...

Well, guess what? Last night, the salt is dry as a bone. Around all moldings it's completely dry. Just about a half inch of puffy salt residue left behind around all of the moldings.

The only thing that has changed is that my lawnmower blenny went carpet surfing.. So,unless he was splashing large amounts of water out at night, umm why did it dry out?

I'm scared when something good happens.... A little mistrusting.
Anythoughts on why all that's left is salt residue?

Yes it could be water just overflowed from the tank. also the "cracking sound" could be a pistol shrimp, mantis, or just snail banging against the glass. Just clean everything off the bottom and see if it happens again. If you think there is definitely an issue you need to act fast before something bad happens.

If it gets wet again it is likely a leak and if you dont replace/repair it you are asking for a flood.

Warnings headed! (Well sorta)... I'm hoping it will last 4 -6 more weeks. I have a 125g I'm having delivered. Drilled with overflows, skimmer, halide lighting with canopy, reef keeper 2, plumbed with around 30g sump, and some established pure live sand. (Right now have CC) including return pump, possibly a heater and a couple powerheads.

Purchasing used with custom steal stand encased in wood. I've learned from my 55g and will be purchasing and installing an RODI unit, and will hopefully reset this up correctly.

I'm just praying it will last another 6 weeks! In the meantime I will wipe off the salt and see if it gets wet again. (my gut tells me it will.)

I could be wrong here, but I think if you are actually hearing cracking, things are about to go south REALLY fast.

From the sound of things, you have been dealing with this for a while. I would suggest just replacing the tank. Is it a standard 55g? Shouldn't be hard/expensive to replace.

EDIT: Should have read above post
