T5 with halide OR LED's?

I am looking to purchase some lighting for my 36 gallon and am trying to figure out what my best option would be for lighting for corals and nems.

My first option is this light: http://www.saltysupply.com/ProductDe...ign=GoogleBase

Or I was told I could go with 3 of these: http://www.ecoxotic.com/catalog/prod...6/category/12/

My question is, will 3 of the LED's be enough for a 36 gallon? Will I be able to grow as much of a variety with only 3 LED's as I would with the t5 and halide fixture? Any advice would be appreciated!

I don't think 3 of that particular LED strip will be able to support anemones. I have no experience with that particular brand, but if you look at their website.... all the display reef tanks have 6 to 12 strips in their fixtures. Normally, it takes a lot of LED to make up for halide.

That being said I know nothing about that fixture you found either. It will be able support an anemone without a doubt, but I am unsure about quality. Search around for some reviews on it.

I was looking at these at the LFS who have these over their show tank, and we figured I would need to 12 to use on my 75g. They had 18 over their tank which looked like maybe a 150g or 125g bowfront tank. There was one strip out at the time, a defective unit, and they've been using the led's for two and a half months. Personally the light strips look like cheap china junk, but the LFS was very happy with them.

I wouldn't use the Panorama modules, personally I would look into their stunner strips. I know they are for supplementing a system only but they penetrate farther than the Panorama module and with the reflectors they nearly equal the Panorama module for half the price. So if you went with six strips vs. 3 of the other you could have much more light and still be even more efficient than the panorama modules. just my 2 cents

Maybe something like the stunner strip fixture just put up on Reef Builders?

I don't think you can link to that site from here. Just search "reef builders" on yahoo and it should be the first link.

Yeah that looks like a great fixture lol they come up with great stuff... its still cheaper to just buy 6 stunners and screw them to your hood with one adapter. and then its completely customizable

I also thought I would need more of the LED's than what I was being told. I like the T5 fixture and it has great reviews so I think I will just go with my gut instinct

I have seen the first link you posted about the fixtures in person and they look okay. The Halide in the middle is adjustable from left to right. The only problem that i seen with it is that if you are using a normal braced tank the halide is right above that brace other than that it is pretty cool. It has T5s on it and led moon lights, and a built in timer. I would go for that and have everything wrapped up into one unit versus a bunch of LEDs.

I ordered the Reefkoi LED and it's exactly as advertised. Reasonably priced, low wattage (110 I believe) and a very blue look; 20K. the 1 downside is the 3 fans are *loud*. If you don't care much about noise it's no problem but the fans are loud enough to drown out my Vortechs noise.
There are other LED fixtures that have quieter fans, I'd look into those, but I wouldn't look at anything less than 60W, or it might not be enough PAR.
