Powder Blue Tang and Blue Face Angel
I've had a 4" PBT in my 75g tank for 4 years. His only tankmates for the last 4 years (until today) were a 3" Gold Stripe Maroon clown and a 2" Lemonpeel Angel.
Today, I got a really good deal on a great looking Blue Face Angel with his adult coloring. I really didn't expect the PBT to freak out but he's relentlessly trying to hit the Angel with his spine until the Angel has had enough and snaps back, which makes the PBT temporarily retreat. Does this seem normal? The Angel is about the same length and probably a little thicker in girth than the PBT. It's been awhile since I've had a new guy in the tank. Does this seem normal? I introduced the Angel with the lights out. They will come on in about 3 hours. |

try taping a mirror on to the tank to distract the pbt.

Typical tang aggression towards newbs on their turf. feed heavy for a couple days, maybe re-do some rockwork, and have an eggcrate divider ready to go in case they get really bad. Wow . . . a powder blue and a blue face angel in a 75 gallon tank. hopefully there is an upgrade planned in the near future where the current display will be the sump.

Agreed - I am pushing it with the tank size. Hope to resolve that issue soon.
I have a mirror up but that isn't distracting the tang. I may have to go the egg crate route. Think I should keep the lights out tonight? |

PBT's are horrible (usually) with new additions & having such a small tank makes it a LOT worse.
I would move rocks around & & what others stated feed lots. I also like keeping the lights on as short of time as possible. I was lucky with the PBT & Sohal I have (in a temporary 210g) that they have zero attitude towards new fish. My cinamon clown is the one that's a PITA...... the tangs do not bother anyone which is why I snagged them but usually PBT's beat the crap out of anyone especially in a small tank |

Well, the lights came on and things actually calmed down a bit. The tang seems to have given up a corner for the Angel. He cruises the tank as always and only seems bother the Angel now if he wanders out of the corner. The both have a couple of tattered fins, but things are definitely calmer.

Update Day 2 - Blue face angel is eating and swimming the tank . The PBT isn't thrilled but is leaving the new arrival alone for the most part.
