Deltec MCE 300 - Opinions PLEASE
I need a HOB and have narrowed the choice and am leaning towards the MCE 300. Any advice would be appreciated. 50 gal, lightly stocked but want the best HOB I can get.
Thanks |

The MCE300 is a fantastic skimmer. It is very easy to adjust although once it is going, very little adjustment is ever required. The one issue with the skimmer is that it can be tricky getting it restarted if you shutnit off during water changes. It's not ban once you get the hang of it. The MCE600 is a better skimmer due to using a better pump then the 300. The 300 uses a modified Maxi-jet while the 600 uses a aquabee 2000/1. Those are the two best hang-on skimmers. If budget is an issue, check out the CPR Bakpak and Reef Reef Octopus hang-on. Tunze makes a nice hang-on skim er as well but they are a little wider.

Take a look at the Warner Marine H2. I personally think it's a better deal.

Thanks for the advice. A few have mentioned the Octopus but I have set the tank up with rock and only left 7 inches to the wall. My understanding is that the octo needs about 10 inches. No Aqua C remora fans out there?

Not even close. Check out the Warner Marine H2 as mentioned above. I think it will fit just fine given your tank's clearance.

Already did Eric...thanks for the tip. Apart from the price, do you think it is a better unit than the Deltec?

I have the MCE300 on a NC28g. It's a bit of an overkill as far as my set up goes.
Its very quiet, easy to set up and skims dark and dry. Like the other poster stated, restarting after a power out is a bit of bother as you have to close the air intake in order to get the syphon going again. |
