heater for 475g tank

does it really matter brand vs brand on heaters? Also, is a 300w unit enough or should I consider a 500, 800 or 1000w heater?

Always had smaller tanks & also always used 250-300w heaters max, usually a few set at different temps. Can I do the same thing on this tank?
