Please Help with my new ATB 840 Skimmer

Just picked this new toy up at Reefapalooza and Im excited as I am building my mixed 120g reef. Im also building my own sump/refugium. can someone tell me how high the water level needs to be in the skimmer chamber for this skimmer and also are there any other things particular to this skimmer that I need to know before building my sump. How about Skimmer operation-anything that I should know. Unfortunately it didn't come with any directions. Do I just plug in and go... or is there more to know Thank you

IME most skimmers need a 6-8 inch depth but would guess that you will have a rather deep sump. What most do with an internal skimmer is build a stand within the sump so you can have more volume but have the skimmer in the right depth. I have an SRO 3000 and built a stand in sump out of PVC pipe and egg crate that works great

Which 840 is it? Is it the newer model with the newer pump?

What happens if water level is too high? How high should my first baffle be? I'm thinking 10inches. With the skimmer sitting on a two inch stand? It sounds like I can work with a baffle that is too high by adjusting stand for skimmer but if baffle n water level is too low I'm in trouble. Is that right?

Sounds like a good plan. I have the same pump as you on my ATB 840 and my water level is 8".
