newby needs skimmer for 12 gallon nano?

I'm new here and don't have the luxury of wading through the forums to try to find an answer to this question. I have already spent way too much time following dead ends. I am looking for a protein skimmer for my 12 g jbl cube and the only one I see that seems to fit in the chamber happens is perhaps the sapphire skimmer which apparently is the one company that has gone out of business with no left over stock.
I had originally bought my tank to take into my classroom but have since decided I like it too much to expose it to high schoolers and the budget cuts that prohibit the classroom from being a semi-constant temperature. My chiller seems to be working fine at home but I'm not so sure about the heater since I haven't really needed it yet.
Any help with locating a tiny skimmer would be appreciated. Should I consider a sump? I have a limited footprint in my cabinet and was wondering if I should.

Hi,

Frequent water changes and using a good filter media (I use ChemiPure Elite and Seagel) should allow you to run the tank without a skimmer.

It is my belief--backed by my experience, that you don't need a skimmer in a Nano Tank.
