Pedestal Shallow Build with Cantilever canopy

I've been a fan of shallow tanks for a while now but could never find anything retail that appealed to me. So I've decided to build something that doesn't take up too much space and fits with the Shinto style of my home. Also something my wife will actually enjoy looking at also. Considering I've never seen an actual tank a pedestal, explaining my design idea to my spouse was challenging. The process of building it was even more so. I knew that I wanted a clean art like look allowing easy access but requiring minimal space. Due to the display being only 24x22x12 I figured an open system was the best way to go with the illusion of the canopy floating in mid air. So I decided to build the pedestal first to make sure the idea would work. Then design a well supported cantilever that is capable of hiding the wires and plumbing of the system. With all this in mind the tank itself is was built 42 yrs ago by someone who inspired me to the hobby of fish keeping as a child. So I cleaned it up and put some holes in the relic.

I figured I'd do all my leak testing and dryfitting before completing my finishing wood work. Time to start filling it up!

Instead of an overflow box, I decided to tint (not paint) my PVC and configure the plumbing for more art appeal. I've found (so far) one of the pro's of the cantilever is it's easier to work on the canopy (lighting) and maneuver around the surface of the tank.

I'll admit I really enjoy the hobby but hate the maintenance. So I've decided to create an automated water change system. Overall the entire system is run with the Profilux II Plus PLC which controls the Auto top-off float switches, AWC, lighting and monitors PH,Redox,Conductivity and optical float switch as back up. Filtration is an ASM G3 Skimmer which I decided to automate by running the ATO through the Skimmer collection cap and drilled the Collection cup with drainage to the basement drain. Everytime the ATO kicks in the Collection cup is cleaned

I also forgot to mention that the convection current is created by a Koralia power head hidden in the center of my rock display. I'm considering placing an anemone in the tank so I had to conceal the suction within a plastic rim to avoid accidentally sucking in a free floater.Koralia.jpg

This is my tightly squeezed Sump running at approx 15 gals. It has been drilled to the basement drain for automated waterchanges.
