Money tight, better quality under sized alittle or budget skimmer sized for tank?
Where to cut the cost? A skimmer with a lower rating for tank size that inknow will skim or a budget skimmer. This tank is about 1.5 years old. I am upgrading equipment from a modded superskimmer220(mesh modded, bored out Venturi, 2 2"airstones.) it skims ok. But I cant spend a ton on a new skimmer. Under 200$ shipped, maybe I can offset by selling my ss220 say 60$.
My tank is a lightly stocked 92g corner with a 20g sump. 4 or 5 good sized colonies of Sps and frags here and there. The fish stock 1 2" coral beauty, 1 2" blue hippo, 1 2.5" yellow wrasse, 1 2" sailfin, 3 1" chromis. |

$25 off orders over $150. You would be well under $200 shipped.

Since you already have a working skimmer, I'd hold off for now to save a little money for an appropriately-rated skimmer. There are hopefully some holiday deals coming soon, and that may help you keep within your budget as well.

I agree with getting by with the skimmer you have now and get a quality skimmer. It seems with skimmers you get what you pay for and nothing is more fustrating then trying to dial in a crappy skimmer. The situation is worsened when working with a skimmer too small for the system it is designed for.
I think you should not have too much difficulty in finding a quality skimmer with your budget. Best of luck.. Thomas |

The used forum on here is the place to go for quality equipment at a decent price. I picked up a SWC 200 w/ sicce pump and it was an excellent skimmer for my 120SPS pulling out a lot of gunk and I think it was just under 200 bones and served me very well for about 2 years.

I could wait a few more weeks. I would like to stay close to 200$, the local cable company has got a deal for a 200$ visa card with sign on. They will be out tomorrow to hook up the new equipment. I could bump to 250$ if I sold my skimmer. What would be the best cone for my system with that bio-load feeding light? Where is the best black Friday shopping going down in the reef world? |
