Definitely a pain. It won't stay black for but a month. After that it'll be gray & look dirty all the time LOL.
I think Premium Aquatics is where I got mine years ago for my first tank, too.

thats true, the black sand will show everything that is not black. I had the Tahitian Moon Sand in my 27gal. Now there are two other options, paint the bottom of the tank black and go bare bottom OR use some black plexi and cut it to fit the aquarium bottom (this is if you don't want the glare from the glass).

Wow this is very helpful. Thanks to everyone. I actually went out looking for it and found a petsMart in Naperville that had it for $30 for 20lb. It looks kinda weird, I was expecting fully black sand jet black. And all they have is some kind of mix of crushed coral/tan sand and black sand. I'm not sure if that's all I'm going to find but if that is the case I might try something else.

And for the painted bottom or glass bottom, do you get alot of unwanted things in the bare floor after a while like dust or fish waste? Just wondering

Tahitian Moon Sand is also what I had before.
Try Petco. PetSmart here only does freshwater, not sure about where you are.
