filter
I posted last week about an emperor 404 and if I could use it to run GFO, and the consensus was obviously I can. My question now is this. I got the filter from someone who used it on a freshwater. Can I still use this knowing this? Who knows if he dosed any meds or anything and it was second hand to him. The thing works great and I want to take everything out of it and just run rowaphos in it so im wondering if i just get some hot water and scrub it with a toothbrush it will all be fine. What do you guys think because I really have to start running GFO soon??!!??!!
Thanks |

I suppose you could have some issues if the tank(s) it was on prior were treated with something like copper meds but I don't know for sure if the copper would actually adhere to the plastic. I would use it on my tank if it was cleaned out real well in a hot water/viengar soak and scrub. If the filter has a biowheel I would remove it.

After a good soak and a couple of rinses I don't see any reason you couldn't use it right away.

If it fits, I would just disconnect the motor and run it through the dishwasher a couple times. Don't use any soap though.
