Why is my Cheato dieing?

I think its dieing anyways. It seems to be shrinking, some parts will feel firm but most of it is light and breaks into pieces when I move it.
Its always green though, the firm parts are a deeper green then the soft parts that break off easy though.

I have a 5600k CFL bulb for the cheato, is that enough light? Should I get a different light/bulb?

Tank has been running for 5.5 months or there abouts and it was doing fine, as in all firm and deep green, up until 3-4 weeks ago.

Chaeto dying is actually a good thing IMO. Maybe there's not enough nutrients to sustain it. Other than coralline, we all strive for a tank without algae growth. As long as everything else in your tank is doing ok, then I don't really no what to say... Good luck.

Make sure you trim it back as it grows. Not only to get the proper lighting it needs (lower portions not getting light penetration), but so the dead portion doesn't re-pollute tanks chemistry, thus self-defeating its purpose.

Another consideration is flow- chaeto does well if it essentially tumbles around a space or at least is rotated by hand to keep detritus from building up.
